Job Title: Traffic Reporter (Part-Time) - Long Island Radio

 

Position Overview

Cox Media Group is looking for a Part-Time Traffic Reporter to write, produce, and broadcast Long Island traffic reports and information for 102.3 WBAB and 106.1 BLI. Our Traffic Reporters are responsible for monitoring traffic and transit conditions to update and deliver copy for on-air reports. You will join our award-winning stations and be a critical on-air contributor to the product.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Gather traffic information via phone, DOT, traffic cameras, maps, and social media
• Organize material, determine priorities, and write reports to meet format standards
• Broadcasts information in clear, time-friendly reports
• Multi-task both information-gathering, traffic producing and broadcasting of information   
• Schedule could include afternoon drive (3 p.m.-7:00 p.m.) and fill-in shifts in weekday mornings (5 a.m.-9 a.m.). Schedule may require work on holidays or in other non-specified hours.    
• Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must have passion and enthusiasm for serving the public and helping the Long Island Radio team achieve and surpass its goals to provide the best product.   
• Must have at least two years on-air experience, preferably in a news or traffic format.   
• Must be able to provide resume of past applicable experience and demo of either past on-air work or recorded reports.   
• Must either have been a Traffic Reporter in the New York metropolitan area or another market or must have at least moderate knowledge of the Long Island road system.   
• Must bring computer skills (email, internet, social media)
• Must be able to handle pressure situations, and a very quick pace
• Must be able to follow multiple format clocks
• Must be able to multitask and be well organized

The wage scale for this position is $16 per hour to $17 per hour. Final compensation for this role will be determined by a variety of factors such as skills, certifications, and relevant work experience.
