Purpose:

This position is needed in order to ensure out cohort default rate is below the federally mandated threshold. Due to the COVID pause on payments placed on student loan repayment being lifted, for-profit schools are experiencing an abnormally high level of delinquencies in both the 2024 and 2025 cohorts.

To combat this, LA Film will need to focus on outreach to graduates as well as withdrawn students to ensure that our cohort default rate is below 20%. For this reason, we will need to hire another loan counselor assist in that outreach.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (those that must be performed with or without an ADA Accommodation):

• Provide one-on-one counseling to students and alumni regarding student loan options, repayment strategies, deferment/forbearance, loan forgiveness, and consolidation.
• Educate borrowers on the differences between federal and private loans, interest rates, repayment plans, and their long-term financial impact.
• Assist students in understanding their rights and responsibilities as borrowers.
• Conduct workshops, webinars, and informational sessions on student loan management and financial literacy.
• Help borrowers resolve loan delinquency or default issues and communicate with loan servicers as needed.
• Stay up to date on federal and state loan policies, regulations, and legislative changes.
• Maintain accurate records of counseling sessions and borrower communications.
• Assist in the development of educational materials and resources related to student loans and financial wellness.

Competencies | Knowledge | Skills | Abilities:

• Strong understanding of federal and private student loan programs and repayment options.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.
• Experience with financial aid management systems (e.g., Campus Vue) is a plus.

Education | Experience:

• 1–3 years of experience in financial aid, student services, loan counseling, or financial advising.
• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required.

Certificates | Licenses | Registrations:

• List here.

Computer Skills:

• Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to learn new programs as required, etc.

Environmental Factors (are those that are required and performed with or without an accommodation):

• This position is a remote and in-office hybrid position.

Physical Demands (are those that are required and performed with or without an accommodation):

• The ability to type for extended periods of time as rigorous documentation is required in multiple databases.
• Approximately 90% of work will be conducted with a computer and computer monitor.

Emotional & Mental Demands (are those that are required and performed with or without an accommodation):

This position results in contact with prior students who are past due on federal student loans. This can be a stressful and sometimes difficult situation. An ideal candidate will be comfortable with having at times, difficult conversation regarding debt, income, and personal situations.
