Product Engineering is responsible for Disney Entertainment & ESPN digital and streaming products and platforms, including product engineering, media engineering, quality assurance, personalization, commerce, lifecycle, and identity.

The Android team building Hulu seeks an experienced Software Engineer passionate about mobile applications. Our collaborative team includes quality assurance, program management, product management, UX, and engineering. We manage apps used daily by millions of Hulu subscribers, striving to maintain top-tier Live and VOD applications across a broad range of Android devices, from phones to tablets, from Android 7 to the latest versions. Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and engineering leaders to create exceptional TV experiences.
  • Partner with client and backend engineers to design durable solutions.
  • Demonstrate engineering excellence via testing, documentation, and agile practices.
  • Mentor junior team members and support peers through code reviews and pair programming.
  • Identify and develop improvements for team processes.
  • Handle production issues and resolve novel problems.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or similar, or equivalent work experience.
  • Deep understanding of Android SDK, activity/fragment lifecycles, threading, custom views, animations.
  • Expertise in Android architecture patterns (MVVM, MVI, etc.) and design principles.
  • Proficiency in Kotlin, Android Studio, and Gradle.
  • Experience with backend integrations, web services, third-party software.
  • Knowledge of reactive frameworks like RxJava or Flow.
  • Commitment to high-quality code with testing and performance tools.
  • Experience with test automation, dependency injection, and CI/CD.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Scrum and Agile methodologies.
  • Growth mindset, mentoring experience, feedback-oriented.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-team collaboration.
  • Experience with Android libraries like Picasso, Retrofit, Coroutines.
  • Experience with UI building using Compose.
  • Knowledge of streaming protocols (DASH, HLS), codecs, DRM.

The salary range in Seattle, WA, is $145,400 to $195,000 annually, with potential bonuses and benefits, adjusted for experience and location.
