Job Description

Overview

Join to apply for the Product Manager, Developer Experience role at ReadMe . Location: Remote or Hybrid (SF or NYC).

ReadMe is hiring a Product Manager to help us redefine how developers interact with APIs and to ensure documentation feels alive, not just written. All too often, APIs come paired with long paragraphs of static text and an expectation that developers will figure things out on their own. We believe documentation is not just a guideits the UI for your API , and it should be dynamic, interactive, and thoughtfully designed. Were not just helping companies write great docs, but helping them to build great API experiences. Youll ensure our product doesnt just workit anticipates developers needs, simplifies complexity, and feels like its on their side.

Were a small team of humans (and one owl) working together to do big things, and were growing! Since were a startup, youll have the opportunity to make a huge difference across the company. Youll also have the flexibility and freedom to tackle big initiatives beyond your day-to-day scope, if thats what excites you.

Who We Are

ReadMe helps companies build beautiful, personalized, and interactive developer hubs. If youve ever visited the developer docs for Apple or Notion, youve used ReadMe! We love what we do because its so much more than just docs. Were providing tools for teams to create and manage beautiful documentation with ease. Responsibilities

  • Own developer-facing product experiences. Shape and improve the parts of ReadMe that developers interact with dailylike the API Explorer, reference guides, and SDKsmaking them intuitive, powerful, and genuinely helpful.

  • Make technical things feel human. Turn complex systems into interfaces and workflows that feel natural and easy to navigate.

  • Ensure ReadMe is awesome by default. Improve onboarding, defaults, and feature discoverability so the best version of our product is the one users experience first.

  • Remove friction, not just explain it. If something is confusing, we fix it instead of explaining it away.

  • Understand developer pain points. Talk with users, dig into where theyre getting stuck, and help the team understand where things feel clunky or confusing.

  • Act as the voice of the developer. Be the connective tissue across product, design, engineering, and supportensuring every decision is rooted in whats best for the developers who use ReadMe.

  • Get into the code (even a little). While you wont be expected to ship production code, you should feel comfortable reading APIs, inspecting dev environments, and exploring technical edge cases in a GitHub repo.

Qualifications & What Youll Love

  • A builder at heartcurious, hands-on, and energized by solving deep technical challenges with simplicity and empathy.

  • Familiar with developer tools, APIs, and technical environmentsand not afraid to dig into repos or talk through tradeoffs.

  • Comfortable working across disciplines. Whether its writing a spec, debugging an edge case, or helping marketing position a feature, you can navigate ambiguity and keep momentum.

  • A strong communicator who can write clearly, think systematically, and distill complexity into clarity, especially in writing.

  • Detail-oriented and eager to polish features until they feel effortless.

  • A strategic thinker who sees the big picture, but also obsesses over the tiny details that make a tool feel magical.

  • Excited about being part of a small, growing team where youll have real ownership.

Growth & First-Year Expectations

  • Be fully ramped on our product and dev workflows.

  • Talk to customers to understand their current friction points and goals.

  • Lead product work on one or two meaty product areas whether its the editor, API Explorer, SDKs, or something else.

Within your first year, youll...

  • Be trusted to independently own big product decisions.

  • Guide features from zero to launch with clear specs, thoughtful scoping, and strong execution.

  • Actively contribute to cross-company initiatives that raise the bar for our developer experience, product quality, and internal processes.

Hiring Process

  • We cant wait to read your resume and (hopefully personality-filled) cover letter! Let us know what excites you about developer tools, and help us get to know you better.

  • If we think we might be a good fit for you, well set up a 30 minute phone chat with Ashley, our VP of Product! Shell tell you more about the role, and get a chance to hear about your experiences.

  • Next will be a second 30 minute phone interview with Greg, our CEO and Founder, where well dive a bit more into your background.

  • Then well invite you to an \onsite\ interview conducted over Zoom! These usually take 3.5 to 5 hours including an hour break in between. We are able to be flexible with the schedule and split it up over two days if that works best for you! We start with a 15-minute get-to-know-you with the team so you can meet the people youll be working with, and then have you talk with people one-on-one later on.

  • Well let you know how things went within a week! If it still seems like a good fit all around, well extend you an offer! If not, we will update you to let you arent left hanging.

Benefits

  • Unlimited PTO with a three-week minimum.

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision insurance for you and your dependents.

  • A One Medical membership.

  • A wellness stipend for therapy of up to $350 per month for up to 6 months.

  • A wellness stipend of up to $150 per month.

  • One-to-one donation matching of up to $1,000 per year.

  • Twelve weeks of paid parental leave after the birth or adoption of a child.

  • Work from home office stipend of $500.

  • Three offsite retreats per year to get together with coworkers and plan for the quarter ahead.

  • Take a look at our handbook for more information on our benefits!
