Job Title: Facilities Support Staff

Department: Buildings & Grounds

Reports To: Facilities Support Supervisor

FLSA Status: non-exempt (full-time, part-time)

Pay Rate: $15.60/hour

Work schedule: 5PM - 11:30PM Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Job Summary: Under the direction of the Facilities Support Supervisor, the Facilities Support Staff is responsible for keeping all museum facilities in clean, safe, and orderly condition. Performs cleaning duties, such as cleaning floors, rugs, washing walls and glass, and removing rubbish. Duties include notifying management of need for repairs and cleaning snow or debris from sidewalks and parking surfaces. Please note: This is a bargaining unit position.

Duties and Responsibilities :

• Cleans floors in both public and non-public areas by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them.
• Removes wastepaper baskets and containers and empties same into trash containers and cleans area after trash has been picked up.
• Services, cleans, sanitizes, and supplies restrooms (refill toilet paper, paper towel, and soap dispensers).
• Cleans and polishes furniture and fixtures.
• Cleans windows, glass partitions, mirrors and blinds using approved cleaners and tools.
• Dusts furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
• Cleans and polishes hardware such as doors, woodwork, door handles, push plates, kick plates, metal handrails and drinking fountains.
• Removes and cleans floor mats and entrance rug runners.
• Reports burned out light bulbs to Maintenance Operations Manager.
• Report the need for repairs to the Maintenance Operations Manager or Facilities Director.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Turns in found articles to dock security.
• Handles emergency mop-ups and spills, utilizing appropriate wet floor signage.
• Assist with the removal of snow from sidewalks, steps, driveways, and parking areas and spread snow melting chemicals as directed.
• Requisitions supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintains storage areas in a safe and orderly manner.
• Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

• Must report to the job site when scheduled prepared to start the Day.
• High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to read, write, follow written instructions, and perform basic math functions.
• One or more years in cleaning services or related type work preferred. Knowledge of cleaning solutions and janitorial equipment helpful. Experience working with and around cleaning compounds a plus.
• Must be able to work as a member of a team.
• Work around the public.

Uniform Requirements: Uniform may be provided.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and use hands to finger, handle or feel or to operate objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance, stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl; and talk and hear.

Be able to climb to heights of 30' or higher. The employee must have the ability climb ladders or trusses and operate a power lift.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 80 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is moderate.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Work is performed inside/outside in all types of weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions and lightning.
