Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is hiring a Nuclear System Engineer to work in our Reactor Project Engineering department supporting the National Reactor Innovation Center (NRIC). You will work onsite at our Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) with every Friday off (4x10 schedule)! The NRIC testbeds provide a unique capability to allow testing of first of a kind advanced microreactors. Being partnered with MFC allows demonstrators to leverage additional nuclear fuels research and development expertise along with numerous post-irradiation examination capabilities. Responsibilities Include:

  • As the cognizant system engineer for various systems of reactors operating at the NRIC test beds, you will provide oversight of advance micro reactor systems and recommend changes to reactor demonstrators.
  • Performance monitoring, tracking, trending and maintenance during the operational phase of a reactor.
  • Use functional expertise in the relevant national consensus codes and standards for Safety Related reactor systems and ensures that all relevant designs conform to the requirements.
  • Provide oversight and review of safety related reactor systems and equipment.
  • Be a member of the Integrated Product Team (IPT) of multiple advanced micro reactor projects.
  • Perform engineering calculations, prepare specifications, perform analyses, perform testing, issue reports and maintain related data for reactor systems and equipment.
  • Maintain configuration management for assigned systems and designs.
  • Work directly with the Technical Program Manager and Demonstration Reactor Lead Engineer to ensure reactors meet the applicable nuclear safety criteria.
  • Perform other design and system engineering tasks as directed by the department manager, including:
  • Design and oversee the development and installation of several types of support systems and equipment
  • Work with project lead to produce detailed design drawings, including physical layouts and installation details
  • Develop control system wiring, logic hardware design and configuration
  • Develop system and equipment design documents such as process and instrument control drawings, system design descriptions, calculations and analyses
  • Act as a strong team player and effectively organize and lead tasks
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other related Engineering degree 5-8 years of experience or a Master of Science Degree and 3-6 years of experience.
  • Experience as a system engineer for safety related reactor systems and equipment at a nuclear power plant is ideal
  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
  • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($91,008 - 186,588) / Level 4 ($109,260 - 223,908). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
