Position overview Position title: Lab Specialist - Zebrafish, Microbiology, Circadian Biology (Jr. Specialist - Specialist ranks) Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience (see section D. Qualifications of the CAPM 602.230 Specialist Series ). The UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. A salary higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step may be offered to meet competitive conditions. An estimated salary range is $53,100 - $90,000. Percent time: Full-time (100%) Anticipated start: As soon as June 15, 2025, but no later than September 30, 2025. The degree must be in hand for employment effective June 15, 2025 and beyond. Position duration: Initial appointment for one year, with potential for reappointment based on performance and funding availability. Application Window Open date: May 12, 2025 Next review date: June 11, 2025, 11:59 pm PT Final date: May 12, 2026, 11:59 pm PT Position Description Under the direction of Professor Jacqueline Kimmey, the selected candidate will assist with research on circadian rhythms, innate immunity, and bacterial pathogenesis, primarily working in the zebrafish facility, including water quality monitoring, feeding, breeding, and raising larvae. Responsibilities include lab management tasks, such as ordering supplies, preparing buffers, and ensuring safety compliance. The candidate will perform basic wet lab experiments and possibly animal studies, requiring good organizational skills and teamwork. The salary, research responsibilities, and level of independence depend on the candidate’s degree and experience. Preferred expertise includes circadian biology, cell signaling, immunity, and genetics in zebrafish or mice. Note: The lab handles pathogenic bacteria, posing risks to immunocompromised individuals. Qualifications Basic qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biology, biomedical sciences, molecular biology, immunology, or related field by June 30, 2025. Experience with molecular biology techniques such as nucleic acid isolation, PCR, cell culture, bacterial culture, western blotting, flow cytometry, or microscopy.
