Description

GENERAL FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the Child Care Director, the Child Care Coordinator is responsible for assisting with planning & development and implementation of all school-age activities, summer camp programs, transportation, and teen programming as required by the branch.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists director with the day to day operation of the child care program.
  • Strong organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and excellent customer service skills are strongly desired.
  • Ensures the safety and security of children at all times.
  • Assists counselors with lesson planning, discipline, and parent interaction.
  • Assists with staff recruiting, training, and performance.
  • Maintains licensing standards and children records
  • Manages annual child care expenses, enrollments & Accounts Receivables.
  • Responds to parents, partnering organizations , management and inquiries about our programs in a timely manner.
  • Creates Parent Newsletter.
  • Coordinates summer camp as needed.
  • Provides classroom instruction when needed.
  • Orders supplies and maintains inventory.
  • Conducts facility tours as needed and provides program information.
  • Assists with and coordinates transportation as necessary.
  • Assists Child Care Director as needed with fundraisers, special programs, and school events.
  • Demonstrates the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility, and integrates values in lesson planning.

  • Bachelors degree and 2-3 years prior child care experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • CDA (Child Development Associate)
  • CPR & First Aid certification
  • State qualifications for child care personnel as required by position.
  • Maintains in-service hours as required by the state and position.
  • Strong supervisory/leadership skills and the ability to effectively discipline, counsel, and evaluate job performance.
  • Ability to interact well with all levels of general public, members, staff and management.
  • Understanding and commitment to the National YMCA Mission and Goals

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists with the supervision of up to 10 or more staff members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining employees.

  • Frequently lifts, moves, and holds children with an average weight of 10-161bs.
  • Occasionally lifts or moves an average weight of 10 to 601bs in awkward or difficult positions.
  • On rare occasion lifts heavy weight (over 60 lbs.) in emergency situations.
  • Ability to physically and mentally react immediately to unexpected circumstances.
  • Required to stand up 95% of the workday.
  • Regularly stoops and bends.
  • Interacts with children on the playground or in the classroom and must regularly rim, jump, dance, and do physical exercise.

EFFECT ON END RESULT: This position has a direct impact on the overall effectiveness with which the YMCA accomplishes its goals and objectives to the community. The effectiveness of the Child Care Coordinator will be evaluated annually. General performance will be evaluated as follows: knowledge of job, achievement of planned results, relations with fellow employees, quality of work, attendance record and attitude. Achievement of the specific objectives outlined above will also be assessed. A positive attitude and a high level of enthusiasm should be exhibited while performing duties.

Pay Range $17 - $19 per hour YMCA
