Job Description
This is a Charge RN position. 12 hour NOC shift.
To provide leadership and direction to RN, LPN, NT, and CNA staff, assuring safety and security of all patients. Provides direct nursing care when the need arises including care and management for patients of all ages requiring hospital medical based rehabilitation services. To assess the persons served, assure for completion of nursing paperwork, and participate in the development of the multi-disciplinary treatment plans and nursing plan of care. Provide leadership and direction during medical/behavioral crisis/emergency situations.
*Key Responsibilities:*
* Receives and gives accurate report regarding activities of the unit and patients. Consults with Chief Nursing Officer on problems related to the operation of the hospital program.
* Assists in the development and guidance of nursing personnel, provides input into evaluation of performance, counsels staff when necessary, orients new personnel as assigned. Serves as a clinical and management resource to nurses and direct care staff.
* Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of department of nursing philosophies, objectives of nursing services and promote optimum utilization of nursing personnel. Assess levels of nursing skills competencies.
* Allocates nursing personnel resources for assigned shift according to acuity levels to accomplish objectives of nursing services and promote optimum utilization of nursing personnel and adjust assignments as department activities demand. Schedules and coordinates lunch periods and breaks when appropriate. Provide deployment of appropriate hospital staff to all service areas as clinically appropriate during crisis calls.
* Completes all required orientation and assumes personal responsibility for own professional growth. Maintains current clinical knowledge and skills in all areas pertaining to Lakeview patients.
* Administers care requiring specialized skills, coordinates and evaluates implementation of emergency procedures and ensures shift routines are completed.
* Functions as unit nurse when necessary, following the RN job description.
* Serves in other job roles/duties when necessary and as assigned by CNO.
* Actively supports the mission, philosophy and goals of the hospital while on duty and in the community including adhering to facility policies and procedures. Demonstrates teamwork through performing other duties as assigned. Maintains the highest level of customer service and cultural sensitivity.
* Participates in quality improvement activities, participates in special projects as assigned, and serves on facility committees as requested.
* Provides crises intervention and behavior management as outlined in the patients’ approved individual treatment plan.
* Provide feedback to the interdisciplinary team developing, assessing and revising the treatment interventions to meet the patients’ needs.
* Takes directives from the appointed incident commander (IC) during a mass casualty incident involving the hospital.
*Qualifications: *
Broad knowledge of nursing principals in various fields (psychiatric, medical, and rehabilitation). Must be flexible and adapt readily to changing situations and maintains therapeutic objectivity. Maintains constant awareness of professional image, (leadership, role model, judgement, teaching, etc.). Must be able to communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing. Demonstrates and promotes loyalty, integrity and appreciation for facility goals. Must plan continued education and professional growth for self. Must be able to physically and emotionally handle clinical and administrative responsibilities. To be proficient in the EMR Welsky within 90 days of hire.
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing and appropriate experience. Bachelors of Science in Nursing preferred, CRRN certified preferred. Current ACLS certification and/or willingness to obtain.
: Current Wisconsin registration as a Registered Nurse. CPR certification.
Two years of experience with preferred experience/training in hospital based, medical rehabilitation or psychiatric setting. Prior charge nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
