Murfreesboro City Schools Administrative Assistant to the Special Education Department Special Education Department Revised on 11-2-23 Credentials: High School Diploma or GED required; College preferred.
Other Qualifications: The person in this position must have the ability to work effectively with patrons and professional staff; be efficient in work habits, honest, organized and confidential. A positive, helpful attitude is critical to this position. Must have excellent computer and clerical skills and be detailed, accurate, and efficient in maintaining databases and resources.
Physical Demands: This person must be physically active and interactive throughout the day, have excellent memory; be emotionally mature and able to handle stress; possess the intellectual, sensory, and motor skills necessary for efficient office management, be flexible and the ability to work in an open, potentially distracting environment.
Essential Job Functions: The person in this position is to perform secretarial/administrative duties and maintain various student and staff databases. Other job functions include:
- Serve as administrative assistant to the special education department.
- Interacts with internal and external persons (e.g. phone, email, in person, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or conveying information.
- Assists with registration and preparation for professional development activities.
- Maintains accurate databases related to professional development, student management and district assessments.
- Prepares a variety of correspondence, reports and other materials (e.g. grant applications, budget reports, surveys, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.
- Assists with the preparation of annual budget using projected numbers and requests.
- Maintains manual and electronic documents, files and records (e.g. budget data, requests, open purchase orders, shipments, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to-date information and/or historical reference in accordance with established administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Processes requests for instructional materials.
- Provide support for Federal Programs to include preparing state reports; assisting with budget development; and purchasing and inventory support.
Staff Relationship: Reports to the Supervisor of Special Education.
Terms of Employment: Twelve (12) months, salary and benefits set annually. Non-Exempt.
